Harvick Leads 451 Laps At Dover In 2018, Just 1 In 2019, Despite 2 4th Place Finishes

Everyone is now talking about Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Larson, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin as the Championship 4 front runners. But, one driver that everyone is sleeping on is still Kevin Harvick.

In Sunday’s Drydene 400 at the Dover International Speedway, Harvick brought his No. 4 Ford home in fourth place. He was also fourth on the Monster Mile back in May too. Harvick, now has four straight top six finishes at Dover and five top 10’s in his last six tries.

But, Harvick’s 2018 dominance didn’t translate over to 2019 though. He led 201 laps in his win in May 2018. He then led 251 laps in a sixth place run in the playoff race last year too. This season, he led one combined lap.

From 451 laps led to one in one calendar year.

Still, he will take the top five as Harvick now has 10 top eight finishes in his last 11 starts on the season. In the playoffs, he’s finished second in Vegas, seventh in Richmond, third on the ROVAL and now fourth at Dover.

He’s going to be there. He’s +42 in the playoff standings.

“For us, we had a tight condition and just right off the bat we struggled with getting the front of our car to turn and we really just lacked overall grip for us,” said Harvick. “It was much different in the race today than it was in practice.

“I would say that luckily this is a good race track for us and we were able to grind out a good solid finish and get some stage points on a day when a lot of people had trouble.”
