1000Bulbs.com 500 Postponed To Monday Following 57 of 188 Laps Completed

TALLADEGA, Ala – Just as the thrilling first stage of Sunday’s 1000Bulbs.com 500 at the Talladega Superspeedway had come to a close, rain began falling on the 2.66-mile Alabama oval. That prompted NASCAR to throw a red flag to give time for the precipitation to end.

When the rain did began to let up, NASCAR dispatched the track drying equipment, including the Air Titans, which began the drying process. Then, just when it appeared that progress was being made, rain began to fall again just after 3:15 p.m. locally. 15 minutes later, the announcement was made that the race would be delayed until Monday.

With sunset at 6:13 p.m. CT and another 90+ minutes ahead of them to dry the track again whenever the rain ended, NASCAR decided enough was enough. The race was postponed until Monday at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. locally as 57 of 188 laps were completed.

William Byron, is shown as the leader in his No. 24 Chevrolet as he won the first stage of the race. It was his second stage win of the season as the other came back in June at Sonoma. Joey Logano was second in his No. 22 Ford while Alex Bowman, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Brad Keselowski rounded out the top five. 33 of the 40 cars are on the lead lap with Paul Menard being replaced at the end of the first stage by Matt Crafton who takes over the No. 21 Ford for Menard as he is dealing with neck soreness.

The first stage saw a ton of action with 16 lead changes among 12 drivers. Ryan Blaney has led the most laps at 15 while Kurt Busch led 12 laps himself.

The plan for tomorrow is for the command to be given, a couple of pace laps, then pit road being opened for pit stops since the pits were closed once the stage ended.
