INDIANAPOLIS — The 26 car field for the NTT IndyCar Series season opener this weekend on the streets of St. Pete is now filled. Heading into the week, we knew 26 cars would show up but only knew of 25 drivers. Now, the 26th driver has been announced.
Carlin, will run rookie Felipe Nasr in their No. 31 Chevrolet for Sunday’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Pete (2:30 p.m. ET/NBCSN/INDYCAR Radio Network) as he will join Max Chilton for the team this weekend. Nasr, tested this car with Sergio Sette Camara last month in COTA as even with Camara taking a role with Dragon’s Formula E team, this isn’t necessarily a full season slate for Nasr.
Nasr, 27, won the 2018 IMSA Prototype championship and was a part of Carlin’s F1 ladder program as he won the British Formula 3 championship in 2011 and was in GP2 with them in 2013 and again in 2014. He’s made several testing opportunities here stateside over the last couple of seasons, but this is his first real seat offer for a race.
